International Outreach - Uganda
At Tameside Community Computers CIC we receive requests from across the globe to help tackle digital poverty. Some are sadly beyond our reach… or so we thought. But last year three charities in Uganda reached out asking for support. Initially, we thought that this would be outside our capabilities, but then we had a moment of reflection and It made us think deeply about those charities and how we could make a real difference to them. So we began to break down whatever barriers we were likely to come across and after months of planning, reaching out to our friends and supporters in the UK, and the airlines,, we began to see the possibilities of making the long-haul trip to Uganda to see where we could make a real difference to those less fortunate than ourselves.

With all the logistics in place, two of our directors, Mike Brooks and Andy Cannell, set off on 26 December to Uganda, via Manchester and London, for a ten day visit with multiple suitcases in tow.

The trip was such as success that we will be revisiting Uganda again this year - watch this space for more details - but in the meantime we want your help again. Mike and Andy found it exhausting taking so many items in multiple suitcases last year that we have decided to raise as much money as we can before we go and buy what is needed when we get there. Therefor we have set up a crowdfunding page for our supporters to use to give whatever they can to help achieve our goal of £10,000. Please help where you can and make a real difference to those less fortunate than we are. You can see from the images here that it brings smiles to faces of the people we help.

Volunteer Celebrations
We have a fantastic team of volunteers here at Tameside Community Computers CIC, and we consistently recognise this in any way we can, as we truly believe that without our volunteers we would not be able to fulfil as many device refurbishments and donations that we currently achieve.

In the past we have been fortunate enough to be awarded a pot of money through the Action Together 'Tameside Volunteers Celebration Fund' that has enabled us to treat our team to a couple of days out. The first year (2023) we all celebrated our achievements by going for a meal, and the second year (2024), we also went out for a meal, as well as experiencing 'Junkyard Golf'. Both events were a great success and our volunteers thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

We hope to be able to continue this tradition if funding will allow this, but for now, thanks must go to Action Together for their continued support and we hope they will continue this going forward..

Pride of Tameside Business Awards
Green Impact Business of the Year Winner
We are extremely proud to announce that in 2024 we were Winners of the Green Impact Business of the Year at the Pride of Tameside Business Awards. This would not have been possible without the Businesses and Individuals donating their devices to us, the Funders and Corporate Sponsors, and, not forgetting, our great team of Volunteers who care so much about helping those in our community and the many hours that they have given to make sure devices that we donate are ready on time.
Lastly, we would like to thank everyone involved in the Awards, and to the Judges for choosing us and recognising the impact that we have made to the people we have helped as well as to reducing e-waste that would have otherwise ended up in landfill.

‘Proud’ is such a small word, but it means an enormous amount to us.

We are excited to announce that in 2023 we were shortlisted for the Digital Inclusion Award run by the Internet Service Providers Association ISPA

We have been judged against some of best digital inclusion initiatives in the country and been picked as one of the top four. We wish all the other organisations the best of luck at the awards ceremony on 9th November at OWO Raffles in Whitehall London.

ISPA, Good Things Foundation and TP-Link partnered to find and showcase the best digital inclusion initiatives implemented throughout the UK in 2023.

Access to reliable good quality technology, and being equipped with the skills to be able to make the most of our digitally connected world, are no longer luxuries - they are essential for all of us. The current cost-of-living crisis and woes about economic security have created an increased demand for initiatives that contribute towards digital connectivity and supply of technology for all.

This category highlights the good work being done to bridge the digital divide and help those in need stay or become connected.
Congratulations to all finalists and thank you to all who participated in this special category.
